GOLF CHÂTEAU-BROMONT, Québec – The Quebec Open powered by Vidéotron Affaires continued on Saturday at Golf Château-Bromont. The highlight of the third round was an impressive performance by Quebecer Joey Savoie, who climbed from 7th to 2nd place thanks to an exceptional round of 64, 6 shots under par.
Joey Savoie, who had put in solid performances on the first two days of competition, capitalized on 6 birdies to climb into the top 5. His performance in the third round puts him in an enviable position for the final round.
« It was a great day, » said Savoie. « I was able to make several birdies, so overall I’m very happy with my day. »
Asked what it would mean to win at home, Savoie remained cautious: « It would be great, but I’m trying not to think about it, as there are still 18 holes to play. I want to keep the same frame of mind for tomorrow. There’s still a lot of work to do, but if I keep the same energy and keep it simple, I think I’ll have a chance in the last few holes of the day. »
For other Quebecers, the day was more of a rollercoaster. Étienne Brault, in an excellent position at the start of the day, was unable to capitalize on his momentum and carded a 74, dropping him to 49th place as the final day of the tournament approached. Raoul Ménard and Étienne Papineau are jointly 28th and 34th, with respective scores of 70 and 69. Chateauguay-born Brandon Lacasse carded a 71, putting him in 43rd place.
The Quebec Open powered by Vidéotron Affaires culminates tomorrow with the final round. Due to the threat of sustained rain and thunderstorms, PGA TOUR Canada is advancing the tee times to 7:30 a.m., which will be presented crosswise. The winner should be crowned around 3pm.
